Young people aged from 9 are undergoing rapid changes, with the onset of puberty, increased engagement with social media combined with increased independence. This phase begins detachment from caregivers and more reliance on peers. To support this phase, understanding the meaning of self-esteem, how self-esteem affects self and other, exploring our identities and how peer relationships can affect how we see ourselves is important. Exploring these concepts while consolidating respectful co-regulating peer relationships, supports young people in the present moment but also throughout their schooling.
