Breathwork For Caregivers
At Lemon Drops Kids Therapy, we recognise that caregivers are often holding significant emotional, mental and physical demands.
Supporting a child’s development and wellbeing can be deeply meaningful — and at times deeply exhausting. Many caregivers spend extended periods prioritising the needs of others, with limited opportunity to slow down and care for their own nervous system.
Individual breathwork sessions are offered as a gentle, supportive space for caregivers to pause, reconnect with their body and restore a sense of internal balance.
What is Breathwork?
Breathwork involves guided, intentional breathing practices designed to support nervous system regulation, emotional processing and overall wellbeing.
Because breathing is directly connected to the body’s stress and regulation systems, learning how to work with the breath can help shift patterns of chronic tension, overwhelm and ongoing activation. These sessions invite caregivers to experience moments of settling, release and reconnection in a safe and supported environment.
Sessions may include guided breathing patterns, grounding practices, reflective support and time for gentle integration.
No prior experience is required.
Evidence-Informed Support
Growing evidence suggests that structured breathing practices may help reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety, support emotional regulation and improve overall mental wellbeing.
Breathing techniques can influence the autonomic nervous system by increasing parasympathetic activity — the part of the nervous system associated with rest, recovery and regulation. This may help counterbalance prolonged periods of stress or heightened alertness.
Even brief, regular breathing practices may support improved mood, increased resilience and a greater sense of internal calm over time.
Breathwork at Lemon Drops is offered as a complementary wellbeing support and does not replace medical or psychological treatment where this is required.
Why Supporting Caregivers Matters
Children’s emotional wellbeing develops within the context of their relationships.
When caregivers feel more supported, regulated and emotionally resourced, they are often better able to remain present, attuned and responsive during moments of stress. This can support co-regulation experiences, strengthen relational connection and contribute to more sustainable emotional support for the child.
Providing caregivers with space to restore their own capacity is an important part of supporting the whole family system.
Session Options
Breathwork sessions may be scheduled alongside your child’s appointment (subject to availability) or booked as a standalone session.
30 Minute Regulation Session — $60
A focused and restorative session designed to provide a gentle nervous system reset within a shorter timeframe. This option may be particularly supportive for caregivers seeking immediate grounding, reconnection and a brief opportunity to pause within a busy day.
60 Minute Extended Session — $120
A more spacious experience allowing time for deeper guided breathwork, emotional release where appropriate, and reflective integration. This session supports more sustained regulation and the development of personalised strategies that can be carried into daily life.
Some caregivers choose to begin with a shorter session and later move to a longer session as they become more familiar with the experience.
Online Sessions
Breathwork sessions may also be offered online for caregivers who prefer to participate from the comfort of their own home or require greater flexibility.
Online sessions are guided in the same gentle and trauma-aware way as in-clinic sessions, with a focus on safety, nervous system regulation and working within your own capacity. Caregivers are supported to prepare a quiet, comfortable space and may be invited to use simple items such as a cushion, blanket or water to enhance comfort and grounding.
Who These Sessions May Support
Breathwork sessions may be beneficial for caregivers experiencing:
• ongoing stress or emotional overwhelm
• fatigue or signs of burnout
• anxiety or nervous system dysregulation
• difficulty prioritising self-care
• a sense of disconnection from their own needs
• the desire to build sustainable regulation strategies
