Nerissa Hede

About Me

Hi, I’m Nerissa (Nissy), a Therapist at Lemon Drops and a parent to two teenage boys, including one who is Autistic with a Pathological Demand Avoidant (PDA) profile.

My Approach

I have worked with children and families for 25 years and my therapeutic approach has evolved into a heart and safety-centred practice, drawing deeply on my lived experience of supporting my own family through autistic burnout, unschooling, complex sibling dynamics, family separation and the ongoing journey of radical acceptance and compassion. I combine this with my professional background in Interplay Therapy, Speech Pathology and Family Support to offer gentle, child-led care. My approach in the playroom is rooted in total acceptance, presence, deep listening, and trust. I work slowly, intuitively and without expectation – tuning into each child/caregiver’s subtle cues, creating a safe space where they feel seen, heard and valued just as they are, nurturing their self-esteem, self-worth, and confidence.

Who I Work With

I work with children aged 4-12 and/or their caregivers, supporting a wide range of needs including neurodivergence, PDA, anxiety, trauma and family change. Whether I’m supporting the child directly or working through the caregiver-child relationship, I allow families to carve out a path that’s uniquely right for them, led by their own values and needs.

Hobbies/Interests

I find joy and grounding in surfing, bushwalking, going on adventures in my van and connecting with my sons. Being in nature and moving with the rhythm of the ocean or the stillness of the bush helps me stay connected and present – qualities I bring to my work with children and families.
