About Me
Hello, I’m Sarah. I am a Social Worker, Play Therapist, Interplay Practitioner and Chakradance Kids Facilitator. Since a young age I have been passionate about supporting others. At the age of 18 I became a LifeLine counsellor, volunteered working with young people in an alternative education setting and have continued this pathway of connecting with others to support their growth as well as my own ever since. I’ve completed a Bachelor of Social Work which included a placement in Ecuador. I travelled and worked overseas for nearly two years before returning to Australia in 2011 when I commenced working in Child Protection. My passion lies in connecting with others and contributing to their growth which is what led me to Play Therapy, Interplay Therapy and Chakradance Kids. I am committed to supporting young children and their families. I strongly believe in the benefits of early intervention for optimal growth and the power of human connection. The highest values I hold are within the relationships I hold with others. I continue to learn and grow myself personally and professionally to offer the best opportunity for others to do the same.
My Approach
I strive to create an environment in which all individuals can truly be themselves and feel fully accepted. In all areas of my work, I trust in the wisdom of the child, I allow the individual to lead their own journey, go at their pace based on their developmental and emotional age and stage, whilst offering continued nurture and a safety in relationship. It is my hope that during work with me your family would feel a meaningful connection, feel heard, seen and understood. I endeavour to provide an environment for caregiver and child to strengthen their relationship and facilitate healing. My approach is informed by neuroscience and engaging with others in a non-directive, humanistic way. With a focus on relationship, I work with children, young people and caregivers to deepen understanding of themselves, others and support people to heal from challenging life experiences. I recognise each individual is unique, I honour the whole person and focus on helping individuals restore nervous system health and enhance regulation capabilities.
Who I work with
I work with children of any age and am open to offering sibling sessions. I am particularly passionate about early intervention and offering support to the young, in the hope to build a pathway for positive longer term outcomes. I endeavour to build strong relationships with caregivers in all areas of my work as I believe a collaborative approach and exploring each individual family's unique situations is key to meeting goals. I also work with groups within the CD Kids Program, offer online support via the Ready, Set, Prep Webinar series, can provide outreach support and am available for tailored support within Education settings.
Hobbies/Interests
My children are my greatest joy and my partner is my most important companion and supporter. I enjoy spending time with them, my other family members and friends. I feel a strong connection to nature and am inspired by its power and wonder. I love the outdoors. I enjoy camping, particularly around water where I can enjoy skiing and wakeboarding. I love the beach and all that it has to offer. I am passionate about the world around me, have spent significant time exploring and living in other countries including a one year exchange to Germany when I was 16 years old, and am fascinated by people and their cultures.
