Saya Knox
Saya has worked as an Art therapist for ten years, with a large amount of her work experience being at the Royal Children's Hospital where she supported families and children who had experienced developmental trauma.
Her professional development is always ongoing and her Art Therapy is supported by further trainings including the Developmental Psychiatry Course (Mindful), Clay Field Therapy (Institute of Sensorimotor Art Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing of Trauma with Children) and the Safe and Sound Protocol.
Other short workshops she draws her skill base from include Synergetic Play therapy, PACE model of Practice, Family Therapy and Circle of Security attachment.
Saya is a mother of two boys, and her personal experiences of parenting and living in a neurodiverse family also influence her understanding of children. She has also commenced her Masters in Mental Health (Child Psychotherapy).
It is the non-directive art making process which Saya believes holds such value and possibility; engagement with art materials can offer opportunities for play, regulation and connection, or equally the chance to externalise a challenge to gain new perspective.
Saya is regularly inspired by the openness and willingness children bring to their art therapy, and the personal growth they experience in return.
