Saya Knox
About Me
Hello! I’m Saya, an extremely passionate Art and Play Therapist, who has been working as a children’s therapist for over ten years.
A large amount of my work was initially at the Royal Children's Hospital, Gatehouse Centre, where I supported families and children who had experienced trauma. Since relocating to the Surf Coast, and after having my own children, I have loved being part of Lemon Drops Kids Therapy.
My Approach
My approach is humanistic, and grounded in attachment theory, polyvagal theory, neuroscience and developmental theory. I believe strongly in the power of non-directive child therapy, allowing children to determine what feels meaningful to them. Engagement through art materials and play, within the context of a safe therapeutic relationship, offers endless potential. I am regularly inspired by the openness and willingness children and young people bring to therapy, and the personal growth and satisfaction they experience in return.
I have my own two children, and my personal experiences of parenting and living in a neurodiverse family also influence my work.
Who I Work With
I work with all ages of children and young people facing a range of challenges; school refusal, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, bullying, trauma, low self esteem/self worth, social and relational struggles. I enjoy supporting children and young people who identify as neurodivergent and have a keen interest in supporting parents and caregivers.
Hobbies/Interests
There are so many ways to fill a day, and engagement in my own hobbies and interests is very important for my own well being. I love being creative; landscaping, building, interior decorating, restoring and gardening. And to balance my creative drive, the ways I relax and wind down; camping, the ocean, waterholes, yoga, massage, city adventures, live music.
